The Gulley Park Concert Series, organized by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, continues tonight (June 23) with a performance by Tulsa-based New Orleans-style brass band King Cabbage Brass Band. The whimsical “Castle” sculpture atop the park’s spring-fed pond has been a well-loved attraction since its completion in 1981. The structure is surrounded by detailed gardens, creating a fun environment for all to walk, climb, wonder and play!
Other elements of the Castle area were later added by artist Eugene Sargent, including ferrocement benches that resemble flowers and leaves. A flower fountain for the pond and a 45-foot “worm” retaining wall were created in 2009. Next blog post.
